Wang Guilan | 王桂兰, 2012 August 27

Scope and content:

Wang Guilan (b.1947) is a resident of Dabali Village, Lvshun, Dalian, Niaoning Province. During the Three Years of Hardships, Wang, still a teenager, had things like radish soup at the communal canteen; they had corncobs which led to constipation. When Wang got too hungry, she stole her grandmother's sweet potatoes. There were fat people at that time, but only swollen bodies because of hunger. Those had soybeans to deal with edema. Wang's great uncle died of hunger around that time.
