Scope and content:

Ye Pingmo (b.1932) is from Zhaixia Village, Pengzhai Town, Heping County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. He joined a commune in his twenties and did farming till the Chinese Economic Reform. During the Great Famine, apart from being forced to stay in a production team, Ye went to Shaoguan City to work in a brickyard. Being paid hourly, he had barely enough food, while his father at home died of hunger. Soon afterwards, his elder son, Ye Zuyan, who was only three years old, starved to death as well. In the eighties, Ye worked in graveyards, till he could not. After that, he stayed in the village living on elderly pension and took care of his grandson. The transcript of this interview has been translated into English.

叶平漠(1932年生)居住于广东省河源市和平县彭寨镇寨下村,二十多岁就入社耕田,直到改革开放。饥荒那几年,他除了被扣在生产队做工,还去了韶关市砖厂打工,按劳取酬以勉强果腹,然而在此期间,留在家中的父亲却饿死了,不久后他的三岁的大儿子叶祖炎也被饿死了。八十年代以后,叶老人从事了二十多年葬风水地的工作,至体力不支,便在村里领老人粮,照顾孙子。
