Scope and content:

Xiao Kaihan (b. 1932) is a resident of Xuanzhongyu Village, Baiyun Town, Shimen County, Hunan Province. Xiao worked as a commander of the local people's militia and the security director of the production team. In this interview, Xiao recounts how two other security leaders tied and beat production team members who worked for the project of Heping Reservoir in the winter of 1959. In the contrary, Xiao recounts how he himself took advantage of his position to save three villagers, who snatched or stole food to eat. The filmmaker's description of this interview has been translated into English.

肖开汉（1932年生）是湖南省石门县白云乡悬钟峪村村民。肖老人1957年从部队复员回家，担任生产队的民办营长兼治保主任。在这段口述中，肖老人介绍1959年冬修和平水库时，负责治安的另外两名干部经常捆绑吊打劳动的社员。但肖老人讲述了自己凭借职务之便，救了三位抢饭或偷饭吃的村民的故事。
