Wang Chunji | 王春记, 2013

Scope and content:

Wang Cunji (b. 1931) is a resident of Xiangzidian Village, Yinhua Town, Shanyang County, Shangluo City, Shanxi Province. He experienced Sino-Japanese war and the Civil War. He was a village cadre. He said that 1958 was the most difficult time. The village commune canteen served only two meals every day. The elders all had edema. During the Backyard Furnace period, he was head of Xigou steel factory. During harvest season, people were busy at the factory and had no time to harvest the grains in the field. From 1957 to 1965, villagers were also busy with road constrction. From 1959, the village started to have enough food. The transcript of this interview has been translated into English.

王春记1931年出生。他参加过抗日战争,解放战争,做过村干部。他说1958年最困难。公社食堂一天只有两顿饭,老人普遍得浮肿病。 大炼钢铁时,他担任西沟铁厂厂长,田里粮食成熟没时间收,劳动力主要集中在大炼钢铁上。还有就是修公路,从57年修公路到65年。59年开始好转粮食够吃了。
