Wu Ren (b. 1941) is a resident of Daguo Village, Linying County, Luohe City, Henan Province. In 1958, Wu did all kinds of labor in the youth team. Her father was sent to Pingdingshan to dig the reservoir. He ran back home because he could not eat enough there. He could not get food from the canteen either, so all the other family members gave him their own portions of food. The 18-years-old Wu went to the reservoir in place of her father, so that her father could work and eat at home. When she was 19, Wu got married during Spring Festival and immediately went back working on the reservoir in winter. In 1960, Wu's sister was starved for too long and died after eating some wheat. Many people died at the reservoir too. The filmmaker's description of this interview has been translated into English.
