Guo Huairui | 郭怀瑞, 2012

Scope and content:

Guo Huairui (b.1929) is a resident of Zhifang Village, Linying County, Luohe City, Henan Province. Guo recalled life from 1958-60 at his village. People did a lot of work but achieved little. Guo said that there was food in 1958. He was a middle school student and could have a steamed bun for lunch every day. But the situation got so much worse in 1959-60 that his parents and grandfather all died of starvation. His grandmother passed away in 1958 when the family was forced to move because of the setup for commune canteen. He was the only survivor in his family. His uncle's family all died of starvation. Women did all the burying of the dead because men were all sent to build the reservior.

郭怀瑞(1945年生)是河南省临颍县大郭乡纸坊村村民。郭老人回忆了1958-60年的大饥荒。大跃进时,干活很多却没有什么成绩。郭老人说58年时还有些吃的,他当时上中学,中午有一个馍。59年和60年期间,他的父母和爷爷都饿死了,奶奶是58年被迫搬家时死的。全家只剩他一个。他四叔郭土岭全家饿死。埋死人都是妇女在干,因为男人们都被叫去修水库了。
