Wu Yunsen | 武云森, 2011

Scope and content:

Wu Yunsen (b.1943) a resident of Wanbaochang Village, Tongchang Town, Yimen County, Yunnan Province. He remembers that there was severe shortage of food at the Commune Canteen, people had to to look for wild vegetables as food. These plants had to be boiled and soaked in brine water so people eat. He said that the famine was caused by paying debt to the Soviet Union. The transcript of this interview has been translated into English.

武云森1943年出生。他回忆1959年吃食堂时,只有包谷而且很少,要去找野菜充饥。野菜要用开水烫石灰点过后才好下咽。这样的饥荒是因为要还苏联的债。
