Zhao Xiuying | 赵秀英, 2011

Scope and content:

Zhao Xiuying (b.1933) is a resident of Zhanggao Village, Heguan Town, Qingzhou City, Shandong Province. In this interview, Zhao recalls life during the Great Famine. When eating at People's Commune canteen, she made steamed buns with sweet potato vines, which were hard to swallow. While starving every day, she also had to work in the farm. The filmmaker's description of this interview has been translated into English.

赵秀英1933年出生, 是山东省青州市何官镇张高村的村民。 在这段口述中,赵老人回忆了大饥荒时候的生活。吃食堂时用红薯藤蔓做成窝窝头吃,难以下咽,天天挨饿,吃不饱饭还要下地干活。
