Jia Youding |

Scope and content:

Jia Youding (b.1942) is a resident of Jiaqiao Village Group 4, Zhangcun Town, Dengzhou City, Henan Province. Jia stopped school in 1958 because there wasn't enough food anymore. Before that, he carried sweet potatoes and firewood to school every week and cooked for himself. Only a few people died of hunger in Jia's production team. They had some people in charge of growing vegetables and their several acres of black vegetables filled the other villages with envy. In 1960, Jia was an accountant in the credit union of the production team. One day, after a meeting, on his way back, he saw a person died of hunger, which gave him creeps. Jia tried to avoid that path afterwards, but could still see dead bodies sometimes. The filmmaker's description of this interview has been translated into English.
