Liu Zhongfu (b.1939) originally lived in Shubai Village, Zhangjiatan Commune, Yanchang County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, and now lives in Fengche Gou, Yanchang County. In this interview, Liu remembers experiences during the Great Leap Forward and Great Famine. In 1958 they constructed blast furnace, and had "big battles during the day and night battles at night" for building the outdoor coal pit. 1962 was the toughest, there was not enough food, and later it got better when they began to secretly dig the farms. The filmmaker's description of this interview has been translated into English.

刘忠福1939年出生，原居陕西省延安市延长县张家滩公社书白村，现居延长县风车沟。在这段口述中，刘老人回忆了大跃进和大饥荒期间的经历。1958年大炼钢铁，他们为了修露天煤窑"白天大战，晚上夜战"。1962年最苦，吃不上，后来开始偷偷地挖地就好了点。
