Yang Xiulan (b.1919) is a resident of Zhanggao Village, Heguan Town, Qingzhou City, Shandong Province. In this interview, Yang remembers experiences during the Great Famine. Her husband was building the reservoir elsewhere, and she grinded sweet potato vines for the People's Commune canteen. Her second son starved to death because there was not much to eat. Later they went working at Liangmeng Village, and few people were strong enough to work in the farm. Corpses were not buried but all next to the river. The filmmaker's description of this interview has been translated into English.

杨秀兰1919年出生，是山东省青州市何官镇张高村的村民。在这段口述中，杨老人回忆了大饥荒时候的经历。她的丈夫在外地修水库，她每天在队里把红薯藤蔓碾碎送给食堂。二儿子因为没得吃，饿死了。他们后来去梁孟村干活，那里没什么人有力气下地，死人都躺在沟边没人埋。
