Meyer Both Company was an advertising and commercial art syndication company founded in Chicago in 1900 by Oscar Meyer and William C. Both. Collection consists of a series of booklets that teach aspects of advertising and commercial art, including: color; drawing techniques; fashion and merchandise illustration; perspective; and photo retouching. Also includes a booklet promoting Meyer Both's commercial art courses. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

Scope and content:

Collection consists of a series of booklets that teach aspects of advertising and commercial art, including: color; drawing techniques; fashion and merchandise illustration; perspective; and photo retouching. Also includes a booklet entitled "Your Opportunity: Success in Commmercial Art" that promotes Meyer Both's commercial art instruction courses. The courses are advertised as being "equally open to men and women."

Acquisition information:
The Meyer Both Company commercial art instruction booklets were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a purchase from John K. King Used Rare Books in 2023. "Your Opporunity" received as a gift from Richard Pollay in 2007 and transferred from Rubenstein Library print holdings in 2025.
