Literary Correspondence, 1966-2002 and undated

Scope and content:

The literary letters group speaks to Millett's work as a feminist writer and activist, and includes many pieces of correspondence with Rita Mae Brown, Phyllis Chesler, Cynthia McAdams, Alix Kates Shulman, and Gloria Steinem. There are also a few letters from Yoko Ono, Pauli Murray, Toni Morrison and several from her husband, Fumio Yoshimura, about Millett's artists' colony (the Farm), her writings, and activism.

Of note are the many folders of fan mail for her major works, particularly Flying . There are also many items related to book sales and speaking requests.

The last sequence of folders is organized by date, and contains letters from numerous people and fans about Millett's literary works.

Folder titles are transcribed from the original titles when present.

These oversized items should be unpacked in a staff workroom with curatorial or conservation assistance before being checked out to the reading room.
