- The British Ministry of Food (1939-1955) was established during World War II to administer food rationing and price controls and to provide food and nutrition-related advice to the public. The album was compiled to celebrate the 200th public service advertisement placed in home and women's magazines between Aug. 1945 and May 1948. Front page states that the album is a copy of one presented to Dr. Edith Summerskill, MP, who was Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food. Topics addressed in the editorial and cartoon-style public service messages include canning, preserving and pickling; menus and meal planning; nutrition; prenatal and child care; rationing; recipes; and seasonal and holiday food recommendations. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

The second British Ministry of Food was established in 1939 at the onset of World War II. It was tasked with administering rationing plans, monitoring the food supply, administering food subsidies and price controls, and providing food and nutrition related advice to public. It was made a permanent department of state in 1946 and continued until food rationing ended in Britain in 1954. In 1955 its activities were merged into the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
