Abstract:
NACLA (North American Congress on Latin America) is an independent nonprofit organization that researches and analyzes issues occurring in Latin America and the Caribbean. The NACLA Haiti collection consists of correspondence, memos, clippings, reports and newsletters, mostly in English and French, and spanning 1991-1994, with many materials created as photocopies. Topics include the coup d'état in 1991 by the Haiti army against the government of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, news on refugees, the role of the United States, peace efforts, and activism. Acquired by the Human Rights Archive.

Scope and content:

Collection contains correspondence and memos; reports and newsletters from the Haiti Comunicat Project, Haiti Droit Humains, Commission Justice et paix from Diocese de Gonaives, among others; and clippings and articles, largely in English and French, and spanning 1991-1994. Many items in the collection are photocopies. Topics include the coup d'état in 1991 by the Haiti army against the government of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, news on refugees, the role of the United States, peace efforts, and activism.

Biographical / historical:

NACLA (North American Congress on Latin America) is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 1966 by student activists in New York. Its focus is on research and analysis regarding Latin America and the Caribbean, including the impact of the United States on various political issues, economics, military, and policy, and through the use of analytical lenses of wealth and power in the Americas.
