Print Materials, 1935-2008, undated, bulk 1980-2006

Scope and content:

The Print Materials Series contains publications and print materials covering the various issues and topics addressed by NCHR, largely focusing on Haiti and Haitians in America in the 1980's and 1990's. These materials supported NCHR's programmatic and legal work, as well as general research and analysis.

Arrangement:

The series is arranged into four subseries. The Legislative and Legal subseries contains publications by government bodies such as the United States executive and legislative branches, various ministries of the Haitian government, and international bodies such as the Organization of American States (OAS). The Newsletters, Bulletins and Other Periodical Publications subseries contains periodicals, news briefs, updates, and bulletins, published largely by human rights and humanitarian NGO's in Haiti and the US. It also includes an extensive run and supporting files of NCHR's own newsletter "Haiti Insight". The Press subseries contains publications of news agencies that covered Haiti and reported on Haitian news in the US, including Haitian News and Resource Service, Le Nouvelliste, and Agence Haitienne de Presse. The Reports subseries contains more or less formal reports put out by a number of agencies and organizations, both government and non-governmental, regarding human rights conditions in Haiti, US detention centers, deportations, labor conditions, AIDS/HIV, agriculture in Haiti, the environment, and police and military abuses. Finally, the Scholarly Materials subseries contains papers on Haiti published through academic channels.
