Most are mounted on ornate paper boards and appear to be a mix of albumen, platinum, and gelatin silver prints. Subjects include John Merrick; his wife Martha Hunter Merrick; daughters Martha, Alma, Mabel, and Geneva; and sons E.R. (Edward) Merrick and J.T. (John) Merrick. Photographers whose names are stamped on frames include Thomas Hobgood, Shelburn, Miss Johnson, and Cole and Holladay, all in Durham, North Carolina. An additional print of John Merrick, circa 1917, is located in the Oversize Prints subseries.
