James O'Shaughnessy (1865-1950) was an advertising executive who served as the first Executive Manager of the American Association of Advertising Agencies from 1917-1928 and business manager at Liberty magazine from 1929-1931.
James O'Shaughnessy was born in 1865 in St. Catherine, Missouri. In the 1890s he served as an advance promoter for the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show's European tour. He worked with the Gundlach Advertising Agency before founding the O'Shaughnessy Advertising Company around 1912. O'Shaughnessy served as the first Executive Secretary of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (1918-1928) before leaving to become Business Manager for Liberty Magazine (1929-1931). He served with the Outdoor Advertising Association from 1931-1935. O'Shaughnessy died in New York in 1950.
