The series includes materials from Payne's career. The bulk of the materials deal with palliative and end-of-life care and pain management. Included are materials from a range of organizations with which Payne was involved, such as the American Pain Society, APPEAL (A Progressive Palliative Care Educational Curriculum for the Care of African Americans at Life's End), EPEC (Education for Healthcare Professionals on End-of-Life Care for African Americans), HPCN (Harlem Palliative Care Network), ICEOL (Duke Institute on Care at the End of Life), IIPCA (Initiative to Improve Palliative Care for African-Americans), PAINS (Pain Action Alliance to Implement a National Strategy), PTEP (Palliative Care Training and Education Program), and VITAS Healthcare. Materials include organizational records, correspondence, reports, curricula, conference handbooks, photographs, and video recordings.
