Alphabetical Correspondence, 1952-1968

Scope and content:

Correspondence from Perlman's years at Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, and early years at the University of Pittsburgh. Arranged alphabetically.

The correspondence from Cornell includes letters in which he and his friends and colleagues discuss their work, their students, and academic life. These letters also include travel arrangements for a trip to Australia in connection with his book Judges in Industry and information regarding his research for this book.

Much of the correspondence from Johns Hopkins concerns his writings on work arbitration and trade unions. It was during this period that his interest was drawn to the economics of public health, and his correspondence reflects this through dialogue with other economists and statisticians, as well as through inquiries regarding his research and replies from organizations providing requested information. There are also letters concerning academic administrative matters, such as recommendations for students and fellow faculty members.
