Series houses photographs taken by Olive Pierce over her decades-long career, and associated materials related to her publications and exhibits. The several hundred gelatin silver prints are arranged by project, roughly in chronological order, and housed by size, ranging from 8x10 to 20x24 inches. Images document a variety of places and subjects: coastal Maine and Massachusetts communities and landscapes from 1960-1993; high school student life and life in a housing project in the Jefferson Park neighborhood in Cambridge, 1970s-1980s; children in Iraqi war zones in 1999 and 2003 and protests in the U.S. against that war. There are also images of her family, chiefly shot in their home state of Maine.
The series also includes about 40 slides of Pierce's work, and approximately 2557 original black-and-white safety film negatives chiefly in the form of 35 mm strips, representing Pierce's work from major projects. The prints represent a small selection of these negatives. The negatives have been given core-level processing and may require additional processing for access.
