Abstract:
Richard Pollay was curator of the History of Advertising Archives at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. Collection comprises mainly photocopies of advocacy and op-ed editorial-style advertisements produced by Mobil's public relations staff beginning in the early 1970s. Topics include the environment, oil crisis, fuel prices, political propaganda and other issues affecting the corporate image of oil companies as well as touching on public affairs subjects interpreted through the perspective of corporate business and the oil industry. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

Collection comprises mainly photocopies of advocacy and op-ed editorial-style advertisements produced by Mobil's public relations staff beginning in the early 1970s. Biographical / historical:

Richard Pollay was curator of the History of Advertising Archives at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia.

Mobil Oil was founded in 1911 as Standard Oil of New York (SOCONY); MobilOil trademark 1920; merged with Vacuum Oil 1931 to form Socony-Vacuum Oil Company; renamed Socony Mobil Oil Company 1955; renamed Mobil Oil Company 1966; merged with Exxon to form ExxonMobil in 1998.

Acquisition information:
The Richard W. Pollay. Mobil Oil advocacy advertisements were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a gift in 2008.
