Abstract:
This collection includes a number of periodicals produced by different organizations interested in enabling and protecting a women's right to reproductive healthcare. The organizations are: the Mayo Clinic, the American Civil Liberties Union's Reproductive Freedom Project, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and HealthyWomen. Accession (2009-0236) (300 items; 0.6 lin. ft.; dated 1989-2009) includes the following publications: Mayo Clinic Women's Health Resource (Mayo Clinic); Reproductive Freedom News (Center for Reproductive Law and Policy, now known as the Center for Reproductive Rights); Reproductive Rights Update (Reproductive Freedom Project); and the National Women's Health Report (National Women's Health Resource Center). Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.

The collection includes periodicals from the above organizations, each discussing various aspects of reproductive health. The periodicals are: the Mayo Clinic Women's Health Resource (May 2007); the Reproductive Freedom News (July 1992-December 1997); the Reproductive Rights Update (December 1989-July 1998) and the National Women's Health Report (Fall 1990-March 2009).

Biographical / historical:

This collection includes a number of periodicals produced by different organizations interested in enabling and protecting a women's right to reproductive healthcare.

The Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit medical practice with branches in Minnesota, Florida, and Arizona. It diagnoses and treats a wide range of illnesses, and also serves as an information source online for patients and other interested parties to find health and wellness resources. The Center for Reproductive Rights, formerly known as the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy, pursues the advancement of reproductive rights around the world through legal action and policy implementation. It was founded in 1992, and is the only global legal advocacy organization dedicated to reproductive rights. (Website: http://reproductiverights.org/).

The American Civil Liberties Union's Reproductive Freedom Project seeks to protect the right of Americans to make informed decisions reproductive health without government interference. It focuses on abortion rights and sexual education. (Website: http://www.aclu.org/reproductiverights/).

Finally, HealthyWomen, formerly known as the National Women's Health Resource Center, is the nation's leading independent health information source for women, providing objective and expert answers to health care questions. (Website: http://www.healthywomen.org/).

The Reproductive Health Periodicals Collection were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a gift from the Barnard Center for Research on Women in 2009.
