Commercially-released Records

Access Restrictions:

Analog formats must be digitally reformatted before use. While none of the phonodiscs in the Commercially-released "Race" Records series have been digitally reformatted, many are available for listening via a variety of internet streaming services, including the Internet Archive and YouTube. To request a specific phonodisc be digitized, or to request physical access to the phonodiscs themselves in the Reading Room, please contact Research Services.

Original recordings are restricted due to fragile formats; however, digital copies are available for most of the recordings.

Researchers must register and agree to copyright and privacy laws before using this collection.

All or portions of this collection may be housed off-site in Duke University's Library Service Center. The library may require up to 48 hours to retrieve these materials for research use.
