"The film is a choral narrative, in which different worlds are linked together. On the one hand, there is the world of the workers and the lumpen, led by the character Lucho; on the other, that of a group of intellectuals who support the Popular Unity, who come together in a poetic front, along with representatives of the petty bourgeoisie. At a certain point, these characters intersect in an apparent friendship that ends in scenes of intense action, with exchanges of gunfire and off-key songs, producing a satirical reading of the era." From 2020 to 2022, the Rubenstein Library partnered with the production company Poetastros to provide footage from the collection for the reconstruction of El Realismo Socialista. Along with creating preservation scans for the project, timecoded access copies of the picture reels -- including negatives converted to positive -- were created and are available here. The picture and sound files have not been synchronized, as their source reels were not paired together.
