- Frank Slaughter was a white surgeon and author who published 65 novels mostly focused on medicine, historical fiction and biblical history. The collection includes personal and professional correspondence and writings, primarily manuscript drafts and some published works of Frank Slaughter as well as some manuscript drafts of Jane Slaughter, Frank Slaughter's wife and a children's book author. Also included are research and publicity materials.

This collection includes materials that document the literary career of surgeon, turned novelist Frank G. Slaughter. The bulk of the material consists of drafts of Frank Slaughter's manuscripts as well as correspondence with publishers and other professional correspondence. It also includes personal correspondence, some manuscripts of Jane Slaughter, research materials and publicity materials for Frank Slaughter's novels.

Frank Gill Slaughter was born February 25, 1908 in Washington, D.C. to Stephen and Sallie Slaughter and raised in North Carolina. He graduated magna cum laude from Duke University in 1926 with a degree in chemistry and graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1930. He completed a surgical residency in 1934 at Jefferson Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. In 1933, Slaughter married Jane Mundy, an operating room nurse from Virginia who later also published children's books. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida, when Frank joined a surgical practice. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1938 and was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1940. His first published novel, a semi-autobiographical novel That None Should Die was published in 1941. During World War II, he served as a surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Following the war, he became a full-time writer. He wrote 65 books with several optioned for film and television. He also wrote under the pseudonym C.V. Terry. William Dubois, author and New York Times Book Review editor, was a silent contributer on several novels.
Frank and Jane had two sons, Randolph and Frank Slaughter Jr. Jane died December 30, 1990 and Frank died May 17, 2001.
