Portfolio consists of color and black-and-white sketches and graphic designs for print advertisements. Companies represented include the American Meat Institute, Green Giant, Hoover, Lumbermens Mutual, and Mimeograph (A.B. Dick).

Biographical / historical:

Howard J. Summers (1915-2014) was an artist and art teacher who served as Art Director for Hoover and Goodyear Aerospace.

Summers was born Sept. 30, 1915 in Endicott, N.Y. He attended the Cleveland Art Institute (graduated 1938) and studied in Europe at Beaux Arts. Summers worked as Assistant Art Director at Hoover and later joined Goodyear Aerospace. He also taught and exhibited art. He died in 2014 in Canton, Ohio.

The Howard J. Summers advertising sketches were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a purchase from in 2023.
