Charles G. A. Thamm original photographs, 1890s-1910s

This series contains original negatives, prints, albums, and unaltered digital scans of Charles G. A. Thamm's photographs. There are also original photographs taken by Thamm's daughter, Clara Thamm, intermixed within this set. The majority of these images are titled and numbered by Earl Dotter, and searching the CT number ("CT1", for example) will cross-locate all versions of that image present within this collection.
Earl Dotter digitized Thamm's images prior to the collection being acquired by Rubenstein Library. Digital "raw" scans are inventoried in this series with Dotter's assigned CT number and his title information. Many titles include the names of the people present and the locations or subjects of the image.
Along with the raw digital images, the series contains a selection of the Thamm family's original prints and glass plate negatives collected by Dotter. Not every raw digital scan has a corresponding glass plate negative or print: following the death of Dotter's great aunt, the Thamm archives (originally stored in her home) were divided up and auctioned, and Dotter was not able to acquire the entire set. He later acquired some of the digital scans from other collectors who purchased the original negatives.
Glass plate negatives in this collection range in size: the majority measure either 3.5x3.5 inches or 5x7 inches.
Photographic prints also range in size. If a solo physical print includes a CT number, that has been itemized alongside the digital image in the series inventory. Other prints are present which lack CT numbers or title information. These are grouped into folders titled "various prints."
Thamm's two family albums also contain prints, many which correspond to glass plate negatives in this same series. Some of the album prints were Dotter's original source used when making his digital scans. Some album prints have Dotter's captions and CT numbers assigned, and that has been included in this collection guide, if known.
