Correspondence, 1969-2017

Scope and content:

Treynor's correspondence, which is mostly professional in nature and with other economists, financial analysts, and publishers. The largest files are for Peter L. Bernstein, Craig W. French, Matti von Türk, Craig T. Boyd, Harry M. Markowitz, and Peter McNerney, as well as the publishers John Wiley and Son and McGraw-Hill. The lone subject file contains drafts by Treynor and other authors on fundamental indexation, while the Milton Friedman file only holds a single letter from him. Many files include drafts and/or published writings sent to Treynor by the correspondent, as well as notes and drafts written by Treynor.

This correspondence is mainly typed or printed, including printouts of email. Treynor's email was handled by his wife and eventual administrative assistant "Betsy" Treynor, who often responded on his behalf. A small amount of correspondence is addressed to Betsy or Jack and Betsy, especially that of a more personal nature.

Loose correspondence was discovered while processing this collection. It was sorted alphabetically, then grouped into six folders.
