Biographical / historical:

The Asian American Studies Working Group (AASWG) is made up of students, faculty, and staff at Duke University and advocates for the creation of an Asian American Studies department at Duke. Efforts throughout 2016 and 2017 resulted in the creation of an Asian American Studies Program, and in 2020, Duke University's Asian American and Diaspora Studies Program (AADS). AADS offers interdisciplinary perspectives on the historical and current-day status of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and the Asian diaspora. Since the program does not include a major, minor, or certificate track, AASWG continues its work as of 2021.
