Background

Scope and content:

Collection consists of publications such as centennial issues of Working@Duke magazine and Duke Mag; the Chronicle newspaper including the "100 Years of Duke University" issue; reports; photos and video recordings including b-roll footage and full program footage of events; event programs, flyers, and brochures; and other materials such as towels, a t-shirt, bookmarks, access passes, and a luggage tag. Records also include the unpublished manuscript for Centennial Women by Bridget Booher and a centennial events survey conducted by Duke Service Learning.

Biographical / historical:

James B. Duke founded the Duke Endowment in 1924, naming Trinity College as a beneficiary. Trinity College was renamed Duke University that year to honor Washington Duke, James B. Duke's father. Duke University celebrated its centennial in 2024 to honor the institution's past, present, and future potential through events such as exhibits, guest speakers, performances, and an oral history program.
