"Make Your Own Toilet Paper" was submitted to the Duke University Archives by Nancy C. Sampson, a Duke University staff member. Sampson describes the zine "as a reaction to the early effects and reactions to the Covid-19 outbreak in the U.S. I wrote and illustrated a satirical zine about the step-by-step process of making toilet paper. The guide explains the true steps of making homemade paper with helpful tips and asides to keep things entertaining.
Many stores were reporting shortages of paper products and there seemed to be a lot of stress, discussion, and news about it. One of the ways I cope with difficult times is finding humor in a situation, sharing it with others to help them see it in a different light, and hopefully, they end up feeling a bit better.
The zine/guide was first sketched in pencil on plain printer paper, which had been cut to 8.5" x 5.5". I then added pen and ink to finalize the writing and drawings, and scanned the pages to convert to a PDF which, I felt, would be the easiest way to share the zine immediately."
