Biographical / historical:

The Duke Climate Coalition (DCC) is an environmental advocacy student group. With a focus on education and inclusion, the organization "strives to mobilize student power and leverage Duke University's institutional influence to create just, high-impact, and system-level progress on climate change." Since its founding in 2015, DCC has taken part in projects and campaigns like the Green New Deal for Durham, improved energy efficiency at the Duke University Health System, and a campaign against plans to build a natural gas plant on Duke's campus. The organization also began a divestment campaign advocating for Duke to divest its endowment from fossil fuel companies. With this campaign, DCC led a protest on campus in 2022 and filed a legal complaint that same year in response to Duke's continued investment into fossil fuels.
