Delta Sigma Theta, Lambda Omega Chapter was chartered on April 5, 1975 at Duke University making it the first Black sorority at Duke. Scope and content:

Collection consists of materials from Delta Sigma Theta, Lambda Omega Chapter's 50th anniversary weekend (April 4-6, 2025) celebration. Includes photographs, a recap video of the weekend, a Duke Today article about the anniversary celebrations, and a press release draft. Also includes a digital commemorative book and a video of the chapter's history that was played during the gala event.

Biographical / historical:

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an "organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community." Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is a historically Black sorority founded at Howard University in 1913 and later incorporated in 1930. The organization has collegiate and alumni chapters in several countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, West Africa, Jamaica, South Korea, and Germany.

Delta Sigma Theta, Lambda Omega Chapter was chartered on April 5, 1975 at Duke University making it the first Black sorority at Duke. The Lambda Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta focuses on acts of public service that uphold the sorority's five programmatic thrusts- economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement. Lambda Omega celebrated its 50th anniversary from April 4-6, 2025. Celebrations included a gala with Angela Alsobrooks, the first Black United States Senator for the state of Maryland and a Lambda Omega Soror, as the keynote speaker.
