Collection consists of minutes and agenda from executive council and general body meetings, correspondence, membership lists, and a Trip Leader handbook. Contains financial records consisting of expense reports, budget proposals, and financial statements. Also includes a report from the Athletic Council Sub-committee which contains a history and membership guidebook of the Duke Outing Club. Materials span 1980 to 1999.

The Duke Outing Club was founded in 1961. It started as a group of students interested in organizing trips for outdoor recreational activities like backpacking and climbing in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Over time, the club expanded its interests to include other outdoor sports such as canoeing, mountain biking, camping, and hiking. The Duke Outing Club supplies outdoor equipment and organizes trips with participation open to anyone in the Duke community. The club also trains and educates members in basic outdoor and survival skills.
