Duke University Chorale formed in 1970 with the merge of the Men's and Women's Glee Clubs. Duke Chorale is the primary choral group of Duke's Department of Music and "features both sacred and secular music from many cultures and traditions, much of it unaccompanied, ranging from Renaissance motets to contemporary works, and including both simpler and more complex music." The group's tours alternate between California, the Northeast, and the Southeast of the United States during Spring Break. Every four years Duke Chorale tours internationally with past tours including China, Central America, and Europe.
Past directors of Duke Chorale include James Benjamin Smith and Rodney Wynkoop. Allan Friedman has been director since 2022.
