Background

Scope and content:

Records include production files, news clippings, press releases, newsletters, posters, and scrapbooks. Materials range in date from 1930 to 1986.

Biographical / historical:

Duke University's Duke Players was founded in February 1931, replacing the defunct Taurian Players, a coed dramatic group established in 1924. The intention of the Duke Players was (and is) to provide students with the opportunity to participate in all aspects of theater, including acting, directing, and production. Though established when the Women's College was still in existence, female students joined male students in all areas of production. The Duke Players is completely student run, though it does have a faculty representative.
