- Biographical / historical:

Originally a resident of Murphy, NC, John Ira Erwin came to Trinity College in 1912. While he was an undergraduate, he belonged to the Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Phi Mu Kappa fraternities, the Weaver College Club, the McDowell County Club, the Mountain Boomer's Club, the Chemistry and Science Clubs, and the Y.M.C.A. He graduated from Trinity College in 1916. He later completed a course in the Aviation School in Atlanta, GA.
