Background

Scope and content:

Contains photographs, news clippings, event programs and memorabilia relating to Erwin's last years at Trinity College, 1915-1916. Most items are unlabelled.

Biographical / historical:

Originally a resident of Murphy, NC, John Ira Erwin came to Trinity College in 1912. While he was an undergraduate, he belonged to the Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Phi Mu Kappa fraternities, the Weaver College Club, the McDowell County Club, the Mountain Boomer's Club, the Chemistry and Science Clubs, and the Y.M.C.A. He graduated from Trinity College in 1916. He later completed a course in the Aviation School in Atlanta, GA.

Acquisition information:
The John Ira Erwin scrapbook was received by the University Archives as a gift in 1979.

Arrangement:

Erwin included these items in a 29-page, string-bound patent scrapbook published by the College Memorabilia Company, with the Trinity College seal on the cover. Loose items were placed in envelopes, for preservation.
