Abstract:
Anne Sherman graduated from Duke University in 1994 and the University of Chicago Law School in 1999. As an undergraduate, she majored in Public Policy Studies and was a varsity cheerleader. She held administrative roles at Duke University including Dean for Academic Advising and Student Affairs for the Law School. This collection consists of materials from Anne Sherman's time as a student at Duke largely related to cheerleading including photographs, a Coca-Cola Bowl banner, itineraries, directory, chants, a Chronicle article written by Sherman, and a letter from Duke alum, Ted Holmes.

Scope and content:

Collection consists of materials from Anne Sherman's time as a student at Duke largely related to cheerleading. Contains photographs; a banner from the Coca-Cowl Bowl; cheerleading itineraries, directory, and chants; Sherman's personal weekly planner and a Chronicle article written by Sherman. Also contains a letter from Ted Holmes (Duke class of 1943) discussing his experiences as a student and cheerleader at Duke with topics including the addition of female cheerleaders in 1941, Duke football, the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Rose Bowl, and mentions racial segregation in relation to campus and sports games.

Biographical / historical:

Anne C. Sherman is a white graduate of Duke University. She was born in 1972 and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in Ohio. She attended Duke's Trinity College of Arts and Sciences where she majored in Public Policy Studies. While an undergraduate, she was a member of the cheerleading team from 1991-1994 and wrote for the Chronicle newspaper. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in 1994 and went on to receive her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1999. Sherman worked as Assistant Dean for Academic Advising and Student Affairs for Duke Law School from 2007-2015 and Associate Director of Gift Planning and Philanthropic Advisor for the university from 2015-2019. She currently practices employee benefits law.
