The Student Organizations Reference Collection dates from 1913 and was compiled from a variety of sources by the University Archives for use in reference and research. Materials include subject files, fliers, clippings, along with some organizational records of undergraduate, graduate, and professional student organizations at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. The collection does not include fraternities, sororities, affiliated religious organizations, student housing groups, or groups only associated with Trinity College (to 1924).

Scope and content:

The Student Organizations Reference Collection dates from 1913 and was compiled from a variety of sources by the University Archives for use in reference and research. Materials are chiefly printed items or manuscripts, and include subject files, fliers, clippings, along with some organizational records of undergraduate, graduate, and professional student organizations at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Topics represented by these materials include campus life at Duke; student activism related to human rights and civil rights; leisure activities on campus; faculty and student interactions; and local, national, and global politics.

Complete archives for some individual student organizations and clubs are processed by staff as stand-alone collections and may be found in University Archives holdings by searching in the Duke catalog for the organization name.

The collection does not include fraternities, sororities, affiliated religious organizations, student housing groups, or groups only associated with Trinity College (to 1924).
