Scope and content:

This collection consists of administrative and financial records spanning 1993 to 2020. Includes events planning records, funding documents, meeting notes, agendas, photographs, promotional materials, and reading materials. Also contains photographs from Springternational and planning materials for Culture Shock.

Biographical / historical:

Duke Students with Interracial Legacies, or SWIRL, is a student group with a mission "to foster a community of students with multiracial, multiethnic or multicultural experiences." Since its establishment in 2016, SWIRL has hosted events like ice cream socials, discussion groups, and Culture Shock, an event held at the end of the academic year to recognize and bring together cultural groups at Duke. Through public engagement, collaboration with other student groups, publications, and campus activities, SWIRL "seeks to educate and empower students" while cultivating an open and welcoming Duke community.
