The Duke University Archives is the official repository for records of the University and the gateway to its past. The role of the Archives is to identify, acquire, manage, and preserve University records of enduring value and make them available for use. It was established in 1972. William King served as the first University Archivist from 1972-2002. Timothy Platt held the position from 2002-2011 followed by Valerie Gillispie who has been University Archivist since 2011.
