Scope and content:

This series includes materials from William Griffith's time as Vice President for Student Affairs. Files are partially alphabetical and include correspondence, reports, memorandums, printed materials, and other materials related to student housing, the Office of Minority Affairs, the Publications Board, the Chapel (including expansion and activities), student activities, the University Union administration and activities, materials related to racial and sex discrimination, and other topics. Included are the results of a survey administered to students on opinions about the Allen Building Takeover (called "Sit-In Study") as well as files on Title IX regulations and segregated facilities.

Collection restrictions:

Records of the University's Board of Trustees which have been in existence for at least fifty years are available for scholarly research with the permission of the University Archivist. Access to records which have been in existence for less than fifty years shall be granted only by special permission, in writing, from the Board of Trustees.

In accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as amended, Duke University permits students to inspect their education records and limits the disclosure of personally identifiable information from education records.

Records, such as search committee files or others pertaining to employment where individuals are identified, are closed for 70 years.

Records including the personal information of individual donors to the University will be closed for a period of 70 years.
