- Scope and content:
-
Contains loose and assorted examples of post-war loyalty oaths, as well as some documents relating to various investigations and trials for Confederate sympathizers or thieves. This material is miscellaneous and was compiled in pieces over time, so does not all relate to each other despite being foldered together. There are 1862 affidavits and notes from an investigation into James Bobbit, an unconditional Secessionist accused of harrassing and threatening Union soldiers, and a investigation of David Groves and R.G. Foster over their stealing 2000 pounds of bacon for the Rebel Army. Also contains an election certificate issued by the 2nd Military District (North and South Carolina) for Martin County, North Carolina, declaring Bryant Bennett the winner of an 1868 election in the county commissioner race.
