Scope and content:

Consists primarily of research files documenting the development, activity and self-understanding of New Left organizations from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. These entail: transcripts of interviews with activists, two with corresponding audio recordings; a significant quantity of internal documents and publications of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and Student Peace Union (SPU) representing a mix of original source material and photocopies of records held in New York University's Tamiment Library (some donated by George Vickers) as well as the University of Chicago Library; a lesser quantity of materials concerning different strands of antiwar activism, the Young Socialists, and the People's Coalition for Peace and Justice (PCPJ); and Vickers' doctoral dissertation and academic monograph based on these sources, as well as earlier draft materials and related correspondence.

Additionally includes undergraduate and graduate student coursework and exams by George Vickers, materials related to sociological teaching and research, and works in sociology co-authored by Vickers.
