Many audio recordings start and end abruptly, with interviewees identified only in inscriptions made by George Vickers on cassette labels. Where recognizable, errors and omissions in Vickers' inscriptions have been rectified by archivist. While interviewers are verbally identified in only some recordings, they generally include Vickers and one or more other researchers affiliated with colleges and universities in the United States. In some cases, larger groups of researchers are identified as delegations organized through the Latin American Studies Association. In other cases, smaller groups are linked to the Institute for Central American Studies, a New York-based initiative coordinated by Vickers that produced analysis of ongoing conflicts both for general publication and for limited circulation among members of Congress.
