Includes reports, organizational files, correspondence, memos, proposals, articles, fundraising, financial reports, budgets, bills, and other assorted materials pertaining to the impact of Hurricane Mitch, a massive storm that hit Central America in 1998. After Hurricane Mitch, WOLA staff advocated for additional aid to countries most impacted including Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Topics include WOLA's efforts to secure additional aid particularly from the United States and USAID; to persuade USAID and government agencies to sign onto the Stockholm Principles involving the reconstruction of hurricane-impacted countries; the impact of the hurricane on rural communities, indigenous groups, labor, agriculture and the environment; debt reduction; and the Hurricane Mitch Learning Project. Printed material and reports by WOLA partners in the region, such as Confederación De Pueblos Autóctonos De Honduras (CONPAH) and Coordinadora Civil para la Emergencia y la Reconstrucción (CCER) are also included. Files were created by WOLA staff including Vicki Gass, Eric Olson, and Geoff Thale.
