Contains clippings, correspondence, reports, memos, press releases and urgent actions, proposals, presentations, hill drops, and other assorted materials related to human rights issues in Mexico. A large subset of materials focuses on Chiapas, Mexico, specifically pertaining to the Zapatista uprising, the subsequent violence that erupted, and government repression of indigenous communities. Includes materials made by human rights groups including WOLA on individual cases of kidnapping, murder, other cases that brought international attention to the region, the Acetal massacre in 1997, and the peace and reconciliation process in the 1990s. Other human rights issues featured include voter rights; indigenous rights; worker's rights (particularly for maquiladoras); violence against LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and peasants; individual cases of human rights violations such as Aguas Blancas massacre; and hill drops on Mexican human rights and other US legislative folders. Notable individuals featured include General Gallardo, a former military general who asked for a military ombudsman to oversee reports of human rights violations of soldiers and civilians by members of the armed forces, Digna Ochoa, a former human rights lawyer and activist, and Rodolfo Montiel and Teodoro Cabrera, environmental activists.
