Initiatives and Activities, 1970-2009

Scope and content:

Contains administrative files, conference materials, reports, drafts, clippings, publications, correspondence, legislative documents, press releases, proposals, manuals, and other assorted materials related to WOLA's issues-based work and activities across Latin America. Topics include WOLA's Advocacy Training Project (ATP); WOLA-created talks and other events, and staff participation in such; work related to drug policies; efforts at aid and reconstruction for countries impacted by Hurricane Mitch in 1998; legislative work; media releases by WOLA; rights and development work centered on economic development and human rights; security issues including demilitarization, peacekeeping, reform, and the School of Americas; and work for Violence Against Women that addresses issues of domestic violence, homicide, and other instances of violence against women in Latin America. Materials often relate to those in the Geographic files with some overlap, particularly for topics related to drug policies, human rights abuses by military forces, media work, legislative activities, and economic issues.
