The Works on C.L.R. James subseries contains materials written and collected by Sylvia Wynter during her research and writing on the life and works of Trinidadian writer and historian C.L.R. James. This includes articles and talks Wynter produced from this research, such as "C.L.R. James and the Cultural Revolution" (1972), "In Quest of Matthew Bondsman: Some Cultural Notes on the Jamesian Journey" (1981), "After the New Class: James, Les Damnés, and the Autonomy of Human Cognition" (1991), "Beyond the Categories of the Master Conception: The Counter-doctrine of the Jamesian Poiesis" (1992), and "James/les damnes, Notions of Freedom and the Absolutism of Man's: On the Production/Producedness of Our Modes of Being Human, of 'Mind'" (2000).
The subseries includes handwritten drafts, marked and unmarked typescript drafts, photocopied drafts, research materials, conference materials, travel documents, correspondence, and notes. There is one letter from C.L.R. James to Sylvia Wynter from 1972, in materials related to "C.L.R. James and the Cultural Revolution".
Related materials may be found in the other Writings subseries, especially the Chronological subseries, which has other works dealing with the concept of "Les damnes" and related figures, especially Franz Fanon.

- Processing information:

Wynter often labeled or made notes on the fronts of folders, very often on sticky notes. Sticky notes were removed, attached to archival paper, and included in the folder. If any information other than just the title of the work was written on the original folder, that portion of the folder was retained and included in the new folder.
Original folders were often unmarked, and contents were often not clearly one work or another. It also appeared that the same materials, especially notes, notebooks, and research materials, may have been used for multiple projects. Handwritten materials were often undated, and some dates were inferred from surrounding materials.
